This is what Selwyn BirchwoodAlligator Recording Artist, and winner of Blues Music Award for "Best New Artist Debut!!" said about David Michael Miller's 2014 breakout solo record, Poisons Sipped:

"Poisons Sipped is a perfect cocktail of Blues, Soul, and Gospel flavors! Do yourself a favor and treat your ears to one of the best albums of the year!"

and here is what Selwyn has to say about Miller's follow up album, Same Soil, releasing July 1st, 2015

Same Soil is a splendid example of how versatile this artist is.  David Michael Miller is as diverse as he is soulful!"

SAME SOIL is a tribute to the fertile blues/roots tradition influencing David Michael Miller’s unique style, following the heels of his breakout album, Poisons Sipped. Co-produced, mixed and engineered by Grammy Nominated producer, Mike Brown, at Temperamental Studio (featured on American Pickers), over half of this album was tracked with pre-WWII instruments and using old mic’ing techniques.  Along with the vintage equipment, David brought in a host of veteran players to bring the songs to life including keyboardist Jim Ehinger (Bonnie, Raitt, Albert Collins, Billy Vera and The Beaters), saxophonist Jason Moynihan (Buddy Guy) and drummer Carlton Campbell (of The Campbell Brothers).  David explores songs inspired by Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, Bo Diddley as well as a blend of americana, soul and gospel influences.

The album features songs that take the listener from hard driving acoustic blues, through greasy shuffles, gospel beats, slow moody  ballads, on to funky blues rock and concluding with a heart wrenching song written to honor his grandfather who passed on during the recording of the album.

SAME SOIL ALBUM REVIEWS

REVIEWS OF MY NEW ALBUM, "SAME SOIL":

Bill Wilson
http://chickenwilson2.blogspot.com/p/july-2015-reviews.html?m=1
"..David Michael Miller is, without question, the real deal...Same Soil could almost be considered a monument to the Blues and to the old masters.  This is a recording worthy of a Handy Award to be sure...Same Soil is a great piece of work...powerful, passionate and totally honest.  Do yourself a favor and don't let this one slip through your fingers.  It is well worth the time, money and effort to track this one down and make it part of your collection."

Chris Spector
http://www.midwestrecord.com/MWR971.html
"..Miller steps right into the blue collar vibe and not only hits the ground running but tears the ground up in Roadrunner fashion like Coyote is hot on his tail. Like a continuation of prime JJ Cale, this set might just have you feeling like you're going back to Tulsa for more of that deceptively laid back sound. Killer stuff that deserves all the praise it's been collecting.."

Rudolf van der Ree
http://www.rudolfsmusic.com/david-michael-miller/
"The singer songwriter has a very different style. From blues and R & B to folk. This ensures that the album sounds timeless."

Eric Schuurmans

“ Again David Michael Miller impresses with his amazing voice.  On his new album ‘Same Soil’, he creates moods without outdoing himself. The fantastic  grooves of each of the members of the band, fly around your ears and soothe your soul. They must have been cultivated in blues soil… ”

Norman Darwin

"All the songs are originals and tend to avoid blues clichés. There are some occasional bursts of truly fierce guitar playing, whilst ‘Too Early In The Morning’ is a lazily grooving number before the wildly rocking closing segment; the CD ends with the folky, moving ‘Man’s Got Things To Do’. Nice to note that David certainly doesn’t believe in playing it safe – and this set is an excellent justification for such an approach."

John Porter - The Professor

"Miller displays his versatility throughout the record, sliding comfortably from the Delta to Gospel to smoky nightclub blues with barely a pause…This album has something for just about every blues lover and shows great promise for the future."

Sheryl and Don Crow

"Hot on the heels of his breakout album, “Poisons Sipped,” David Michael Miller is back with an even stronger sophomore set of  hard-hitting blues mixed with gospel inflections and some fine ballads as well...David Michael Miller travels over that sacred “Same Soil” that the blues forefathers trod upon for the inspiration for this fine set.  He shows a strong versatility thru killer musicianship and clever, thought-provoking lyrics."

Eric Campfens - BarnOwlBlues

"I liked his first album already very good, this is even better. David Michael Miller is one of those artists with original songs on their own works on his career. And at an exceptionally high level."

Lou Lombardi

"David Michael Miller has the potential to go anywhere and be anything in this business that he wants. He could easily be the next great blues super star ala Robert Cray or Bonnie Raitt. In the mean time we can all groove to Same Soil while we see what the future holds."

Gary Schwind

“David Michael Miller is a singer-songwriter from western New York - although you'd probably never guess that from his sound. A more likely guess would be somewhere in the south - or perhaps Chicago - when you hear the way he plays the blues on his new album Same Soil..Miller shows his talent as a blues songwriter as well as his connection to gospel music on this album. If you're a fan of groovy blues, this album will fit right into your collection.”

"I just received the newest release, Same Soil, from David Michael Miller and it, like his 2014 release, Poisons Sipped , it's quite remarkable!"

Rex and the Bass

" David Michael Miller turned in a solid performance on Same Soil with mature songwriting, good musicianship, and excellent production values. It is totally worth your time, so check it out if you get a chance!"
